BLOCKBUSTER wins 2nd Podcast of the Year Award from Adweek

The first season of Blockbuster won Adweek's prestigious Creativity Podcast of the Year award in 2019. Now Blockbuster: The Story of James Cameron continues the tradition for 2020.

LOS ANGELES — As original and scripted podcast series continue to grow, BLOCKBUSTER has earned another major award, this time for its sophomore season on the rise of James Cameron.

The hit series won Adweek's Creativity Podcast of the Year for 2020, announced today, making it the only podcast to repeat as winner in that category from the 2019 awards.

Told in 10 episodes, BLOCKBUSTER: THE STORY OF JAMES CAMERON is the second season of the podcast named the Best Miniseries of 2020 by NYF Radio Awards, and Best Creative Podcast at the Adweek Podcast of the Year Awards. The season begins in 1977, following then-truck driver James Cameron as he embarks on a career in film, and follows his challenges that lead to his deep-sea ocean dives and struggles on Titanic.

The new season pushed boundaries, with one of the largest casts of actors in a miniseries, led by Ross Marquand (The Walking Dead; Avengers), and the most impressive sound design by Peter Bawiec, and a sweeping original score from Fernando Arroyo Lascurain.

The music became the first-ever Original Podcast Score to be released by a podcast. It is available now from Lakeshore Records on all platforms.

The podcast series has earned praise from critics including the Wall Street Journey, Forbes, The Verge, Fast Company, The Hollywood Reporter, Yahoo Entertainment, Nerdist, Deadline Hollywood and Gizmodo. It was also described as a new genre of podcast, blending elements of scripted drama with highly detailed journalistic research — dubbed by some outlets as the world's first "biopod" (biopic-style podcast).

“This was a massive undertaking, especially for a completely new format of entertainment," said Matt Schrader, Blockbuster's writer-creator. "Fernando's music delivered the emotional complexity of an Oscar-caliber film. It allowed us to weave the music into the fabric of the podcast listening experience."
